OpenID eliminates the need for multiple usernames across different websites, simplifying your online experience.

OpenID is set to bring you (the user) back control of your login! With nearly ten-thousand compatible websites, OpenID is fast becoming the new easy and secure way to login.

The Good: How it works
A login under OpenID defies current logic by storing sensitive data such as your password, birthdate, full name, etc with an identity provider whom you completely trust. You can then feel safe giving websites, even those you don’t trust, your Identity URL. Using your Identity URL a website can contact the trusted identity provider, and ask for information about you. Then your identity provider will confirm your consent by asking you to login. The big difference is that you always login to your trusted identity provider, whom tells the website you successively logged in and tells the website whatever you told it to. This means no more registering, manage passwords, or anything of the kind as your identity is managed by a single site.
A webcomic of romance,

So Travis and I have been working on this new Facebook application called fActivity. The idea is to take all the feeds around the web that document your activities and share them with your friends on Facebook. Couple little use cases here to show what we’re talking about:

Travis just twittered something oh-so-important and thinks it would be cool if all his friends on Facebook knew, maybe even by updating his status to what he just twittered.

Daniel just dugg some way cool site and wants all his friends to check it out too.

Austin just upload a waaay tight movie to YouTube and wants everyone to watch it and comment about it right now!

Most of the basic functionality for adding feeds is there right now, but we’re still deciding on new functionality and would appreciate if anyone has some input. We already know it would be cool to have features like your Facebook status being updated with your Twitters, but would it be also useful for it to say things like

10:37 - Daniel dugg “The Programmer Dress Code“

There are so many possibilities on Facebook to integrate, hopefully especially with RSS feeds! Let the new frontiers be explored!

I have just finished setting up our very own Ubuntu repo over at packages.flippedweb.com. There are several cool packages in it, and I’ll be sure to consolidate whichever cool packages I find on the net. If you happen to have an suggestions, please leave a comment or email me at dan@flippedweb.com.

If you would actually like to use the repository in Ubuntu (feisty), please add the following lines to your /etc/apt/sources.list

## These should just be general packages for the LATEST Ubuntu release.
deb http://packages.flippedweb.com/ ubuntu flipped
deb-src http://packages.flippedweb.com/ ubuntu flipped

You should also add my public key (if you trust me) to verify the packages you download.

wget http://packages.flippedweb.com/dan.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add -

Then you can do a quick sudo apt-get update and enjoy whatever packages we have!
